Yes, the 2 networks are in the same location, the access points are about 1 foot apart so they are both in my 'house'. The wireless-n AP is providing DHCP and acts as the Gateway and DNS server for all devices, both g and n.
You are right that I could be using the same SSID, I'm not mainly because I want to make sure that my n-capable devices are connecting to the higher speed network and if I used the same SSID, I'd have to look at which channel the n-capable devices were connected to. Do you have any indication that the SSID matters? I would think not because as far as the D* receivers are concerned, they have no idea they are on a wireless network. They just have an IP address for themselves and for the gateway and DNS servers, gateway, the same gateway as everything else on my home network(s) including the laptop on the wireless-g network.
